The Approved Engine Course 1 (AEC1)

The Approved Engine Course 1 (AEC1) is the first level qualification for the MCA Engineering Officer training structure. Having completed the course a learner will improve and enhance their employment prospects within various sectors of the marine industry.

The course will enable a learner to gain a general appreciation of basic marine diesel mechanics, electrics, and MARPOL pollution legislation. Learners will have skills to carry out regular servicing of marine diesel engines and to carry out fault prevention and detection.

This course meets the requirements for the MCA Code of Practice for the ‘Safety of Large Commercial Sailing and Motor Vessels’, the ‘Safety of Small Commercial Motor Vessels’ and the ‘Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats’.

The Approved Engine Course 1 (AEC1) is a highly interactive course which involves both classroom and practical workshop sessions in order to ensure candidates reach the required standard.
