Description

Overview:

The aim of this course is to equip seafarers on ships navigating polar waters with the necessary education and training outlined within the STCW requirements, in alignment with the guidance provided in the Polar Code. The curriculum addresses the Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency (KUP) requirements specific to vessels operating in polar regions, as delineated in:

·       Table A-V14-1

·       Function: Operation of ships in polar waters

Competence:

·       Contribute to the safe operation of vessels in polar waters

·       Monitor and ensure compliance with legislative requirements

·       Apply safe working practices and respond to emergencies

·       Ensure compliance with pollution prevention requirements and mitigate environmental hazards

Training Outcome:

There are six outcomes to the training

Outcome 1 The learner knows about ice found in polar waters

Outcome 2 The learner knows about the polar water regions where ice is found and related seasonal changes

Outcome 3 The learner knows and understands about vessel preparedness, performance and capability in polar water regions

Outcome 4 The learner knows and understands emergency preparedness and response to emergencies in polar waters

Outcome 5 The learner knows how to ensure compliance with pollution prevention requirements and how to prevent environmental hazards

Outcome 6 The learner knows and understands how to use international and regional regulations and codes whilst operating in polar waters
