A Deckhand on a superyacht typically earns €2,600 to €6,500 a month, depending on the size of the yacht. Training for this step includes Proficiency in Designated Security Duties, VHF Radio Operator Course, National Powerboat Certificate and MCA Yacht Rating Certificate, on top of the basics such as an ENG1 medical and Basic Safety Training.
A Deckhand’s responsibilities depend on the type of yacht (e.g. a motor or sail) and size. Still, these usually include a combination of cleaning and polishing the exterior of the yacht, transporting guests in the tender, assisting in the navigation when underway, operation of water sports etc. Certification may be required, and some experience on a superyacht is vital.
