Superyacht Crew Careers

Find out what each superyacht crew role involves, what it typically pays and which courses and certificates you need to get there.

Deck

The deck team runs the yacht's exterior, tenders and water toys, and stands watch on the bridge. Most crew start as a Junior Deckhand and work up through Bosun to officer and Captain, adding certificates and sea time at every step. See the full Deck career path.

• Junior Deckhand €1,000 – €3,200 a month
• Deckhand €2,600 – €6,500 a month
• Bosun €2,900 – €8,000 a month
• Officer of the Watch (OOW) €2,900 – €11,500 a month
• Chief Mate/First Officer €3,100 – €13,500 a month
• Captain €5,400 – €28,000 a month

Engineering

Engineers keep the yacht's engines, generators and systems running. The route starts with the Approved Engine Courses and leads, through sea time and Small Vessel certificates of competency, to Second and Chief Engineer. See the full Engineering career path.

• Electro Technical Officer (ETO) €3,900 – €10,000 a month
• Second Engineer €2,700 – €9,800 a month
• Chief Engineer €4,000 – €14,500 a month

Interior

The interior team looks after guests and the inside of the yacht: housekeeping, service, laundry and guest experience. Most stews start as a Junior Stewardess and move up to Chief Stewardess or Purser. See the full Interior career path.

• Steward/ess or 2nd Stew €2,500 – €8,300 a month
• Chief Steward/ess €3,100 – €10,000 a month
• Purser €3,000 – €9,300 a month

Galley

Yacht chefs feed guests and crew to a very high standard, often in a small galley and far from the nearest supplier. The galley route runs from Crew Chef to Sous Chef and Head Chef. See the full Galley career path.
