The South African Maritime Training Academy is a non-profit maritime education and training company established in 2003 with the aim of providing skills enhancement training for Southern African seafarers. The training facility, situated in Simons Town, South Africa - a picturesque community with a strong maritime history, houses state-of-the-art simulation systems and facilities to provide marine education programs and skills enhancement training courses for all disciplines. SAMTRA instructors are ex-seafarers who remain abreast of current international shipping trends through Continued Professional Development to ensure that they retain the relevant knowledge, experience and skills. Our training philosophy is to design and conduct education and training programs in a relaxed, open learning environment and to facilitate learning by using skillful training methods, well-designed materials, and genuine enthusiasm. SAMTRA has partnered with Professional Yachtmaster Training (PYT) based in Durban, to provide a range of MCA-approved superyacht training courses at our facility in Simons Town.
