Description

Overview:

The training objectives include providing candidates with essential knowledge and abilities for maintaining a secure navigational watch utilizing Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), integrating them with other onboard systems to ensure navigation safety. This course is designed for individuals seeking an independent ECDIS certification compliant with Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended (Manila Amendments).

Course Content:

Upon completion, the candidate will demonstrate proficiency in:

Utilizing ECDIS to uphold a secure navigation watch as an integral component of efficient bridge resource management. This competency is outlined in:

·       Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code.

·       The marine national occupational standards B02 ‘Maintain a navigational watch’ and B11 ‘Initiate the response to navigation emergencies’.

All deck officers, including yacht officers, seeking a new or revalidated UK Certificate of Competency, must submit an ECDIS certificate with their application. Failure to include this certificate will result in the CoC bearing the limitation: “From 1 January 2017, this certificate is not valid for service on ships fitted with ECDIS” (refer to MIN 423).

For UK-flagged vessels where ECDIS serves as the primary navigation tool, both general and equipment-specific ECDIS training must be completed by the Master and all deck officers (see MIN 442).

Similar requirements may apply to vessels under different flag states; it is recommended to verify directly with respective authorities if uncertain.
